Ride Report

It's almost midnight and I thought I would quickly compose a brief recap of today's ride. First off it was much nicer than yesterday's ride. The reason it was nice was because I started the ride before it got hot. I left my house at 8:20 AM and was home before noon. The first half was all downhill into the Orting Valley. The second half was all uphill. The scenery on this morning's ride was beautiful. I rode past the Carbon River with fantastic views of Mt. Rainier, fields of corn ready to be picked, and fields of diverse and bountifully colored flowers. There were also the familar cows and horses grazing in lush and overgrown pastures. Very picturesque.

I rode 36 miles today. I would love to get a longer ride in this weekend but it does not look like it is going to happen. Hopefully I can get a 50 miler in next week. Probably on Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you've been reading my blog you know that I am riding in the MS 150 that is scheduled to take place the weekend of September 8th and 9th. I would like to ride the 75 mile route, but more than likely it will have to be the 50 mile route. I just haven't been getting enough training rides in these past few months. But I do feel strong so I'll just have to wait and see how I feel on the day of the MS 150. I will also have to take into account that my daughter is also doing the ride with me. And she really has not had the opportunity to ride. She has been busy with her summer job and working as a counselor at summer camps. So we will probably ride the 50 mile course. But it's all about having a good time and raising money for a great cause. I am looking forward to the event very much.

Tomorrow I am taking a day off from cycling to spend it with my son who is home from college for the summer. A good mother son day. He will be going back to EWU in September to finish his last year. He graduates June 2008!

On Thursday I want to get another morning ride in or perhaps a late afternoon/early evening ride. On Friday morning my daughter and I want to ride about 25-30 miles. She has Fridays off from her summer job and is also home for the summer from college. And like her brother she will be returning to school, CWU, in September. She graduates the year after her brother.

Well I guess that about sums up today's ride. It's now past midnight and I am very tired. So with that I am signing off with a good night and happy trails tomorrow!

Sorry about that. I did speak with Joe about our Saturday morning bike ride; he said that he would like to do our 25 mile loop that starts from Enumclaw HS.

I sent you an email yesterday. Did you receive it? I will send you a second email tomorrow morning with my cell phone number included.

I thought about riding this morning but the grey skies deterred me. I'm just a chicken when it comes to rain on pavement. How about you? Did you get a ride in yesterday or today?

Wow two conversations going with you at the same time.
Maybe we should try adding a phone call and text messaging at the same time as well. ;-)

Yes I rode in to work yesterday. It was actually just right temp. I really worked on my spinning to try increasing my average speed. In fact I made it up the hill and home in record time yesterday. Being a little cooler during the ride helped some. But I sure felt it in my legs this morning though. Hopefully going home this afternoon my legs will have recouped by then.
I got the e-mail you send this morning, so that looks like we got connected that way OK.
10:00 at EHS sounds good. If you want to make it earlier that would be OK as well.
What do I look for to single you out?
I will be driving a Black Chev P/U with WIBNRML license plates.
And I’ll be wearing a WASHINGTON jersey.

Well I’m looking forward to getting home and stripping the bike down for a good cleaning and lubing to prep for the big ride tomorrow.
Look forward to seeing you all.

Gary,

LOL, yes we should add text messaging and cell phones to our stockpile of communicating! We will certainly be abreast of what's in right now!

Hey, I sent you an email before my daughter took over the computer. You mentioned an earlier start. Would you prefer a 9:00 or 9:30 start instead of a 10:00 AM? We can compromise and say 9:30?

I did receive both of your emails. Thank you for your cell number. I still don't know what I will wear tomorrow. I never know until the very last minute. Joe and I ride treks. His is blue and mine is red. I have a women specific one, it has the 650 wheels. I love it except it's hard finding tires and tubes. My favorite tire are the Vredestein Fortezzas. I think the ones currently on my bike will need replacing very soon.

When our two kids graduate from college Joe and I are going to treat ourselves to new road bikes. Custom fit road bikes. I think with all the new geometry I will go with 700 wheels. It will be easier finding tires and tubes that's for sure.

Ok, Have to run to the grocery store. I'll check when I return to see what you say about our start time tomorrow.

10:00 start time tomorrow is fine. But maybe for future rides that are longer, a earlier start maybe considered. So I don’t take up my whole days off with biking activities. Of course seasonal temps, weather and light are always to be considered.

Be advised. Climbing up through Lakeland at record time for me, is still sub-light speed.
In fact. It’s more like anti-time in the space time continuum.
But for a neighborhood class athlete such as myself. (as opposed to world class). That is a improvement.

Try these sites for tires. Nashbar didn’t have much to offer.
